Terms of Use

Last updated: September 30, 2026

Compass is a free retirement planning tool from RetireNerd.com. By using it you agree to these terms.

Education, not advice

Compass is for education and planning. It is not investment, financial, tax, legal or insurance advice, and it doesn’t recommend any particular security, product or strategy for you. RetireNerd.com is not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, tax preparer or law firm. Talk to a qualified professional before making decisions based on its results.

Projections are estimates

Results depend on your inputs and on assumptions about returns, inflation, taxes, Social Security, Medicare and other rules. Those are estimates. Simulated futures are not predictions and past market history doesn’t guarantee future results. Tax and benefit rules change; Compass uses the rules for its stated year and projects them forward. The User Guide’s Limitations section lists what Compass simplifies or leaves out.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter and for your own decisions. Check important figures against official sources (your statements, ssa.gov, irs.gov, medicare.gov).

No warranty

Compass is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, RetireNerd.com is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of Compass or reliance on its results.

Your data

See the Privacy Policy. In short: your plan stays in your browser.

Intellectual property

Compass, its design, methods and code are the property of RetireNerd.com. You may use it for your own planning and share your own results. Fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License.

Changes

We may update Compass and these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version.
